A Look at Commercial Real Estate and Commercial Realtors in Florida

With billions of dollars contributed annually to Florida's economy, commercial real estate is big business for Realtors.

Florida's commercial real estate industry is booming. According to recent numbers, commercial real estate contributed almost $190 billion to the state's economy, making it the third most of any state. Florida also ranked third in commercial real estate spending — at almost $100 billion.

That's why the state's commercial Realtors are such a powerful subset within Florida Realtors.They’re involved in almost every development in the state, from a new convenience store to a multi-million dollar sports stadium.

Most commercial Realtors focus on a market niche, such as multifamily housing, office space, industrial space or retail space.

Florida Realtors and commercial real estate

Our association’s Commercial Alliance Committee gives Realtor members a forum to discuss issues and recommend actions that can improve the state’s commercial real estate industry. Those actions often include legislative initiatives and contract changes.

Florida Realtors was instrumental, for example, in urging the state to twice lower its business rent tax, which created an undue burden on commercial entities considering a move to Florida, as well as existing state businesses that planned to expand

Commercial real estate designations

The Realtor Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation is commercial real estate’s global standard. Earning this designation requires 200 classroom hours and professional experiential requirements. (Contact CCIM at 800-621-7027)

The Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) designation indicates you're working with one of the most knowledgeable and experienced commercial real estate brokerage specialists.
